PETITION TO SAVE ARLA IN SETTLE

STOP THE CLOSURE – PROTECT JOBS & OUR COMMUNITY!
Arla has announced plans to close its Settle dairy site by 2027, threatening 130 jobs and devastating the local economy. We, the undersigned, urge Arla to reconsider its decision and explore alternatives that will keep Settle open and thriving.

We Demand:

  1. Arla pauses the closure plan and engages in meaningful discussions with workers, the local MP, and GMB Union.
  2. A full review into alternative investment options to expand Settle and create a UHT Centre of Excellence.
  3. Commitment from Arla to work with the local council to explore land acquisition for expansion.
  4. Transparency from Arla regarding their decision and the reasoning behind choosing Lockerbie over Settle.

Why is this important?

Why This Matters:

  • Job Losses: 130 workers, including cleaners, engineers, process workers, and drivers, face redundancy.
  • Community Impact: Generations of families rely on this site for employment. The closure will devastate local businesses and suppliers.
  • Environmental Concerns: The site is under scrutiny, but solutions exist! With investment, Arla can resolve concerns and continue production at Settle.
  • Economic Fallout: The loss of Arla will impact transport, retail, farmers, and other services in the area.
