  • TFL Employee Diabetic Policy Demand
TFL employees need diabetic policies because diabetes can impact work performance and productivity, potentially leading to increased absenteeism. By understanding the needs of employees with diabetes, TFL can implement suitable  reasonable adjustments and support systems that allow them to manage their condition effectively and remain productive at work. This includes recognizing that diabetes is often considered a disability under the Equality Act 2010, requiring employers to make reasonable adjustments.

  • No Unpaid Work at Cambridge Shakespeare Festival!
Dr Crilly continues to advertise theatrical roles at this prestigious event yet refuses to pay even the National Minimum Wage to his actors. This is despite charging up to £20 per ticket, selling programs and attracting an annual audience of 25,000 all with very low productions overheads.  The 2023 Employment Tribunal agreed with Equity that the actors were in fact workers entitled to at least the National Minimum Wage, Holiday Pay, and other basic employment rights; which the Festival unlawfully withheld. The future of the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival is uncertain. Despite the judgment, Cambridge Shakespeare Festival continues to hire actors and denying them National Minimum Wage and other statutory rights.  If the Festival continues to ignore employment law they are at risk of further legal action which could endanger the future of the festival. At least one Cambridge College has withdrawn its support for the 2026 Festival with the other colleges watching developments with interest. We call on the Festival and its director, Dr Crilly, to end this wage theft, and respect our members and professional performers by complying with employment law.

  • Tell Regional Schools Director to Consult over future of Uni. of Brighton Academy Trust schools
The University of Brighton Academies Trust operates 14 schools in East and West Sussex teaching 1000s of children and employing 100s of staff.  In the summer, National Education Union members took industrial action over workload and job losses following revelations that the Trust was taking millions on pounds from school budgets to fund central trust services including excessive executive pay.  This autumn, the department for education decided that the trust would be wound down and all it's schools 're-brokered' to new academy trusts.  The NEU is calling on the Dept of Education to: • Return all schools to local council control  • Consult on the future proprietors of the schools with unions, staff and parents • Ensure that national union negotiated pay and conditions and union recognition is maintained for teachers and support staff

  • Tell BBC Scotland to Save River City
Paul W Fleming, Equity General Secretary,  called the move "short-sighted" and a "disaster for Scottish television", saying the move would have a disproportionately negative impact on Scottish performers - many of whom get their first TV job on River City - and the wider Scottish to production landscape. The £9 million annual budget is excellent value for money given the hours of programming produced throughout the year for a successful show pulling in a regular audience of 500,000 per episode.  The Glasgow-based show is well-loved by Scottish audiences, enjoys strong ratings, and won ‘Best Drama’ at the RTS Scotland 2023 awards. It is the only domestic Scottish soap running on TV and outperforms other TV series by more than 2.5 times. It provides work for dozens of Scottish actors every year. River City is thriving and successful in its current format. There is no way that the BBC can replace the level of investment and job creation that River City provides to the Scottish economy and Scottish culture sector. Any alternative proposals the BBC offers will inevitably hurt Scottish culture workers and and TV production.

  • Save our Centres
Phoenix, Greenfields, and Hungerford day centres provide invaluable support to some of the most vulnerable adults in society, including adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and for those with frailty and dementia. They are oversubscribed and much loved by the community. Closure of these services is short sighted and will place additional pressure and costs on other public services such as homecare, care homes, and the NHS. Dedicated and experienced centre staff will lose their jobs and service users (and their families) will be negatively impacted. The centres are purpose built and were recently refurbished at significant cost to the council. They survived and thrived despite a decade of council cuts and austerity. But today these essential services risk being lost forever.

  • Sodexo: Petition Against MyTime Payroll System
In some months, pay could vary by as much as £150, severely impacting those who rely on state benefits such as Universal Credit, Tax Credits, and Housing Benefit.  These fluctuations can lead to a reduction in benefit amounts, causing undue financial stress. We urge Sodexo to reconsider MyTime and implement a mechanism that ensures consistent monthly pay for all employees. Stability in pay is crucial for the well-being of the workforce. Sign this petition to demand fair and stable pay!

  • Stop Parking Eye at James Cook and the Friarage
Parking Eye is bad for staff and bad for patients. It could lead to punitive fines being handed to a private company – even when you’ve been unable to find a parking space.     It is wrong, and it shouldn’t happen.     A formal dispute has been raised from UNISON and other staff side unions and this can be stopped – but it needs you to act.     Sign the petition to tell the Trust to Stop Parking Eye at James Cook and the Friarage now.

  • Justice for the Sacked Workers of Almost Famous Burgers - Pay Us What We're Due!
Unite Hospitality are campaigning for these workers to receive the justice they deserve: financially, legally and politically but we need your help!  We want to send a clear and collective message to unscrupulous bosses across the country - you cannot and will not get away with treating your workers like this. Through collective action and union support, we will fight back and win!  To the Labour Government that promised to "Make Work Pay", we need decisive action which stops workers from being treated like this ever again. The incoming Employment Rights Act should include a clause which unequivocally outlaws pheonixing and bans such business owners from ever holding the office of Company Director again.  To the people of Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds we need you to vote with your feet and boycott Super Awesome Deluxe restaurants.
